God, Please Help Me: Chinese Couplet Vending Machine

God, Please Help Me

As a tradition, Taiwanese people would go to temples or fortune-tellings to ask for good luck during the Lunar New Year holidays. They whisper questions in their mind and then draw a piece of paper from a box. The poetry on the paper would metaphorically provide hints or answers. Inspired by this custom, we conceived an interactive vending machine where God would answer people's questions directly. The vending machine is like a massive fortune-teller stand. The interaction is approachable, instinctual, and less religious. By feeling visitors' palms, the well-known gods among the western and eastern cultures Jesus and Maitreya would respond to people's requests and return a Chunlian as a blessing. The Chinese Chunlian artworks are designed by different interdisciplinary artists and randomly distributed to visitors.
